The Pyramid of Hasselt
2018
Hasselt, BE
I distributed 150 leaflets to the letterboxes of the neighbourhood Sint-Jans in Hasselt and a request on the social media to ask people to donate me their spare bricks they have at home. I followed the saying that ‘Every Belgian is born with a brick in his or her stomach’ which means building their own house belongs to number one priorities. I used this opportunity to collect all the various bricks of the houses in the city and unite them in one brick wall, the Pyramid of Hasselt. People were asked to bring their spare bricks to the local pub called ‘Den Dros-saerd’ and during three weeks I collected 147 bricks from more than 15 different neighbours. I built the pyramid during a community festival called ‘Urban Playground Festival’ in this neighbourhood.
